About this route
Seven kilometres of open bay between La Pulente and L’Etacq, then back again: 14 km of almost entirely flat running with surf, dunes and huge skies. It’s the island’s classic long run and a staple of marathon training.
There’s nowhere to hide from the wind, which is part of the training. Surf cafés and toilet blocks at regular intervals make it easy to plan water and fuel stops.
Coaching notes
Draft notes, awaiting review by our instructors.
- Marathon long runs: add a lap of the first section, or carry on to the Railway Walk, to build towards 25–30 km.
- Run into the wind first so it’s behind you when you’re tired.
- Fuelling practice: use the cafés at Le Braye and along the bay as rehearsal stops for your race-day nutrition.
